USCIS Exempts Biometric Fee for all I-539 Applicants

September 25, 2023

Beginning October 1, 2023, all applicants filing Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status, will be exempted from paying the $85 biometric services fee. However, in most cases, after October 1, 2023, applicants will not be scheduled to attend a biometric services appointment. If USCIS determines that biometrics are required, the applicant will receive a notice with information about appearing for their biometric services appointment. Any I-539 applications requiring a biometrics fee that were filed and post-marked prior to October 1, 2023, will still need to be accompanied with the $85 biometrics service fee.
